REFILWE TURNS HURT INTO DANCE ON NEW SINGLE DONE

Multi-talented South African artist Rēfilwe announces the release of her second single called Done available as of today.

Done is a bold breakup song that fuses upbeat Afropop/Amapiano-inspired sounds with lyrics about a breakup – the perfect irony. Written from a place of reflection, the song expresses the freedom that comes from the decision to leave a toxic relationship. It pairs the relief of moving on with melodies that make you want to smile and dance

While many breakup songs centre on loss and lament, Rēfilwe chose to focus on letting go with confidence. By juxtaposing upbeat music with breakup lyrics, she defines the breakup song as one of empowerment rather than lament.

“The song is called Done because it represents the end of something,” says Rēfilwe. “I was inspired by the fact that the end of a bad relationship can be the beginning of something beautiful. You can experience heartbreak in so many different ways, be it romance, friendship or a situation. So, I wanted to create a song that reassures people and gives them courage to move forward. Just because something hurts when it ends, it doesn’t mean that moving on was the wrong decision. You can let go, find peace and start again.”

The track was written and recorded with producer Mojalefa “Mjakes” Thebe. The release marks a step in the evolution of an artist who showcases her range in sound and lyrics. While Rēfilwe’s debut single, Home, blended elements of Pop, R&B and Marabi sounds, Done ventures into a new sonic territory, showcasing her range and desire to explore different sounds.

As South Africa celebrates Youth Month, Rēfilwe hopes Done will remind young people to embrace courage, growth and the freedom that comes after a tough period or situation.
