THE CITY OF JOBURG HIV/AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN EXECUTIVE MAYOR DADA MORERO AND MMC FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ENNIE MAKHAFOLA

The City Of Joburg HIV/AIDS awareness campaign along Executive Mayor Dada Morero and MMC for Health and Social Development Cllr Ennie Makhafola will launch an HIV/AIDS campaign Maponya Mall in Soweto. HIV/AIDs remains a big concern for us in the city and the efforts to curve , educate and support residents affected is our priority.

The City says it is meeting communities at the front line of fighting the virus and will provide various services on the day for the residents of Soweto to check status , receive Prep and other services that cater to different health needs. 

As a response we launched the world’s biggest HIV counselling, testing and treatment campaign, the country target to test 15 million South Africans and the city commits to the challenge thus the campaign to encourage the citizens of the city to get tested and if testing positive to take treatment as it is available in the cities health facilities without defaulting to treatment said the Mayor Dada Morero and MMC Cllr Ennie Makhafela as a proffessional in the health space.

“We changed the approach from voluntary to proactive HCT meaning HIV counselling and Testing going to the 7 regions of the city offering support and treatment. The result of all these massive efforts is that life expectancy has risen from 54,7 years in 2010 to 66,5 years in 2024. One of the most prominent scientists has compared this with the impact of the abolition of slavery”. Minister of Heath Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.
