The City of Cape Town will auction approximately 50 City-owned properties across the metro on Thursday, 26 February 2026, in a move aimed at unlocking economic, social, and spatial value.

The auction, which will take place both online and in person, includes a range of residential, commercial, and industrial sites – most notably the iconic Good Hope Centre.

Landmark Redevelopment Opportunity
The release of the Good Hope Centre precinct is positioned as a strategic redevelopment opportunity.

According to Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, the site offers significant potential for a mixed-use precinct while preserving key heritage elements, including the dome structure.

The property measures 2.4843 hectares and is zoned Mixed Use Subzone 2 (MU2) and Transport 2.

Approved development rights allow for a gross lettable area of 8 038m², while the verified gross building area stands at 27 804m².

Metro-wide Opportunities
The broader portfolio spans multiple high-demand areas, including Atlantis, Durbanville, Foreshore, Century City, Epping, and Khayelitsha, among others.

In total, about 282 000m² of land will be released.
