IT WILL NOT BE AN EASY GAME – BAFANA COACH BROOS AHEAD OF MOZAMBIQUE PETER MOKABA STADIUM TONIGHT

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is bracing for a tough outing when his charges face Mozambique in an international friendly match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, tonight. Kickoff is at 19h30.
The youthful South African senior men’s national team drew 0-0 with Tanzania in their first match during this FIFA window at the selfsame Polokwane venue on Friday last week and Broos said he was looking forward to giving the other players in the camp an opportunity to also impress in the second game against the Mozambicans.
“First of all, I am looking forward to the game tonight and as you know it will be a totally different team to the one that played (against Tanzania) last Friday,” he said. “But as I said, I want to give play time to everybody who is here in camp with us and give them the opportunity to express themselves on the pitch.
“It will not be an easy game as we are playing against a good opponent. I think, if I’m not mistaken, they are doing well in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the moment. They also had a very good AFCON last year in Ivory Coast, so Mozambique are certainly not a bad team. On the other side, it will be a good test for all those new and young players who are with us at the moment.”
Broos has preferred to split the responsibility of captaining the team during this FIFA window between two senior players in regular skipper Ronwen Williams’ absence (he is with his team at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America) and the armband was awarded to Fawaaz Basadien in the first match against Tanzania. Nkosinanthi Sibisi will get an opportunity to lead the team against Mozambique tomorrow.

“Obviously (captaining Bafana Bafana) ranks very high (in his list of achievements) and for me it’s a privilege and an honour to be able to lead the team, and I’d like to thank the coach for showing confidence in me,” Sibisi said. “We’ve been together from the very first camp when he came (to South Africa) and I’d like to say thanks to him because there were sometimes question marks whenever I was here. But to be able to lead the team tomorrow will be a huge honor and a privilege for me.”
