GAUTENG TRAFFIC INSPECTORATE INTENSIFIES ENFORCEMENT TO IMPROVE ROAD SAFETY ACROSS THE PROVINCE
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, and the Gauteng Traffic Inspectorate (GTI) continue to strengthen road safety by enforcing compliance through sustained law enforcement operations across the province.
Public transport compliance remains a key priority for the department, ensuring that operators and vehicles adhere to legislative requirements.

From the 08 to 14 June 2026, GTI officials issued a total of 1 090 handwritten AARTO infringement notices, amounting to R1 174 700, while a further 864 E-Force infringements to the value of R975 750 were issued for various traffic offences.
As part of ongoing efforts to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles operate on Gauteng’s roads, officials served 97 discontinuity notices to unroadworthy and non-compliant vehicles. Additionally, 13 vehicles were impounded in Ekurhuleni for various offences.
GTI operations also resulted in 22 arrests, including:
- 19 arrests for drunk driving;
- 1 arrest for common assault; and
- 1 arrest for interference with law enforcement officials.
Public transport compliance remains a key focus area for the department. During the reporting period, GTI recorded:
- 87 minibuses operating without license discs;
- 274 minibus drivers operating without valid driving licenses; and
- 81 minibuses discontinued due to non-compliance with applicable legislation.
The Gauteng Traffic Inspectorate remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting responsible road user behaviour, reducing road fatalities, and ensuring that all motorists and public transport operators comply with the law.
Members of the public are urged to obey the rules of the road, ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol.
